Public Health Administration

Public Health Administration seeks to achieve the vision of Ras Al Khaimah Municipality Department to ensure public health and safety, to protect society from diseases and to promote the health of society. Where Public Health Administration is responsible for protecting public health and safety and ensuring food safety in the Emirate of Ras Al Khaimah according to the highest international standards through the application of federal and local laws and regulations and standards related to public health.

The Administration is constantly developing effective regulatory systems and procedures that keep pace with the aspirations of Ras Al Khaimah Government to ensure public health and safety and excellence in providing public health services and enhancing the experience of the customers.

The Administration also regulates, monitors and follows up training programs for food dealers on the basics of food safety in order to improve the practices of employees in food establishments and ensure the safety of food.
Public Health Administration comprises 4 sections: (Food Control Section, Health and Environmental Control Section, Veterinary Control and Services and Laboratories).

Tasks & Responsibilities

  1. Application of federal and local laws and regulations and standards related to public health.
  2. Protecting community members from diseases transmitted through food, water, occupational health facilities (such as beauty salons, barbershops, laundries, etc.) and common and epidemic diseases transmitted through animals and birds.​
  3. Follow-up complaints and communications related to public health.
  4. Approve issuance of commercial permits for establishments related to public health.
  5. To tighten control over border ports and to examine imports and exports related to public health.
  6. Contribute to the conservation and development of fish wealth and the control of fish markets and facilities.
  7. Contribute to the conservation and development of livestock and the control of livestock markets.
  8. Create and develop technical regulations, legislation, manuals and guidelines related to public health.
  9. Issuing permits and certificates for activities related to public health.
  10. Increase health awareness among society members.
  11. Upgrading Municipality Services Levels in the field of health and public safety.
  12. Ensuring food, vital and biological security.​

Food Control Section

Food Control Section is responsible for ensuring food safety in the Emirate through the control procedures that guarantee the safety of food manufactured locally and imported through the Emirate’s ports (land, sea & air). Food Control Section adopts these procedures in accordance with Law No. 2 of 2019 on Food Control in Ras Al Khaimah.


Tasks & Responsibilities

  1. Control of food establishments and ensure compliance with health requirements and standard specifications.
  2. Approve issuance of commercial permits for food establishments.
  3.  Issuing permits and certificates for food activities.
  4. Approve Food Cards.
  5. Accreditation of training companies, food consultants and trainers.
  6. Responding to the food reports received from the Ministry of Climate Change and the Environment, preventing the circulation of food that is corrupt or unfit for human consumption in the markets and shops in the Emirate, confiscation and execution them.
  7.  Planning and implementation of studies and surveys in collaboration with Laboratories.
  8.  Release food shipments through the Emirate ports.
  9. Enhancing consumers’ health awareness through workshops and awareness sessions.
  10. Responding to consumer complaints, verifying the complaint and taking necessary corrective and preventive measures.
  11. Investigate food poisoning cases.

​Environmental Health Control Section

Health Control Section is responsible for supervising health facilities such as: women's and men's salons, relaxing massage rooms, sports clubs, laundry and others. The section also responds to environmental health complaints and issues health certificates for ships and boats.​


Tasks & Responsibilities

  1. Control occupational health facilities (such as beauty salons, barbershops, laundries, etc.)
  2. Accreditation of public health pest control companies.
  3. Issuing health certificates for ships and boats free from public health pests.
  4. Release restricted consumer goods shipments through the ports of the Emirate.
  5. Responding to environmental health complaints.

Veterinary Control and Services Section

Veterinary Control and Services Section is responsible for supervising veterinary establishments, inspecting animals before and after slaughter in the emirate's slaughterhouses, monitoring livestock markets to ensure the safety of livestock from infectious or epidemiological diseases and detecting live animals through the ports of the Emirate to ensure that they are free from infectious and epidemic diseases.



Tasks & Responsibilities

  1. Control of veterinary establishments (animal production farms, meat, poultry and fish shops, sale of live birds and poultry, pets stores, Feed and poultry slaughterhouses).
  2. Control livestock markets to ensure the safety of livestock from any infectious or common diseases and organize their movement in the country.
  3. Detection of slaughtered animals to ensure the safety and validity of meat for human consumption.
  4. Control of fish markets.
  5. Laboratory examination of animals’ blood samples to ensure their safety from any infectious or epidemic diseases.
  6. Release shipments of meat, poultry, fish and foodstuffs coming through the ports of the Emirate and ensure their validity for consumption and conformity with Gulf standards and specifications.




Laboratories

Laboratories Section is responsible for analyzing food and drinking water samples and ensuring compliance with approved standards and specifications.


Tasks & Responsibilities
  1. Analysis food and drinking water samples and ensure that they conform to the approved standard specifications.
  2. To conclude contracts with food establishments and water factories inside and outside the Emirate to analyze samples of their products to ensure that they conform to the approved standard specifications.
  3. Review standard specifications draft received from the Emirates Authority for Standardization and Metrology.​​​
